What are the biggest new features in React 19.2?

The theme across all of them is less wasted work and better debugging. React 19.2 is one of those releases where you immediately feel the DX improvements.

How does the React Activity component improve performance?

Activity lets you hide UI without unmounting it, which means React doesn’t have to redo all the work when you show it again. With the hidden mode, it hides children, defers updates, and waits until React has nothing left to work on. I like to explain it with the Netflix analogy: you can “pre-render” the next episode hidden, and when the user clicks Next, it feels instant.

What problem does useEffectEvent solve in React 19.2?

It fixes one of the most annoying useEffect patterns: unrelated values causing your effect to rerun. In my chat room example, changing the theme shouldn’t reconnect the user, but with a normal effect it does because the dependency changes. By wrapping the event-ish logic in useEffectEvent, the UI can update while the connection stays stable.

When should I use useEffectEvent instead of disabling the lint rule?

My rule of thumb: whenever you’re tempted to suppress the dependency linter, that’s a strong signal to consider useEffectEvent. It’s also a great fit when you’re mixing reactive logic (things that should trigger rerenders) with non-reactive logic (things that shouldn’t). Just don’t use it as a blanket “silence the warning” tool because that can still lead to bugs.

What is cacheSignal in React Server Components and why does it matter?

cacheSignal is for React Server Components, and it’s basically React giving you an AbortSignal tied to the lifetime of the current server render. If React abandons a render because the user navigated away or switched quickly, it can automatically abort the in-flight fetches. That means less wasted bandwidth, less server work, and fewer requests for data the user will never see.

How do React DevTools Performance Tracks help with debugging?

Performance debugging used to be really hard to reason about, and that’s one complaint I’ve had for a long time. With the new Performance Tracks in Chrome DevTools, you can see what rendered, what’s blocking, how long transitions take, and how Suspense is behaving. It’s much closer to reading your app’s performance like an ECG—clearer signals and faster diagnosis.

What is partial pre-rendering (prerender resume) in React 19.2?

Accepted Answer

Partial pre-rendering lets you pre-render the static shell and serve it fast (CDN-friendly), then resume rendering later to fill in dynamic content. React exposes this via a prerender call and a resume flow using the postpone state. In Next.js, you often get similar wins just by using Suspense boundaries or loading.tsx, but it’s still super cool to see React ship this natively.
