WD-40 is the trademark name of a penetrating oil and water-displacing spray. Science behind this experiment: WD40 is an oil-based product and many balloons are made out of latex. Oil will dissolve through natural latex products, and a balloon which is already under pressure doesn't need much damage to the latex to create a weak spot where the air will push through.
