Lighting is the most important part of cinematography (right after the camera), and in this video I break down the exact 3-point interview setup I use on almost every job—single cam or dual cam. I walk you through my space planning, key light placement, and how I keep things safe and efficient when I’m working in a tight room. My key here is an Aputure 600D with a Light Dome (I’m using the Light Dome 3) plus a grid, and then I add an extra layer of diffusion with a 48x48 one-stop silk to get that really soft, polished look without letting the light spill everywhere. From there, I show how I handle fill and separation without overcomplicating it: a simple bounce (cheap Neewer reflectors are honestly great) to lift the shadow side, and a small overhead hair light (my little PV6 tube) just to kiss the hair and shoulders. I also get into the real-world stuff that matters—mixed color temps, competing window light, and why I always white balance manually with a gray card (because the FX6 manual white balance process is… not my favorite). Finally, I dial exposure using false color, adjust intensity until I’m sitting where I want on skin, and show how filtration (polarizer, mist, ND in my matte box) changes the whole feel of the shot.
