The A7S III came out almost six years ago, and I’ve used mine basically every single week since December 2020. This video is me explaining why I still can’t sell it and “move on,” even though there are plenty of cameras that beat it on paper. I’m talking real-world stuff: travel, jobs, bad weather, dust, salt water, and even the time it literally got run over on a wildfire shoot. I fully thought it was dead, but after pulling off the destroyed 24–105 mount, I threw in a new battery, slapped on a lens, and it just… worked. The big reason I keep coming back is the image holding up where I actually need it—especially at 12,800 ISO. I lean on that constantly for 60/120fps, for stopping down without more light, or when I just don’t have the space to rig lighting, and the image still looks really good with solid dynamic range and contrast. I also love the EVF for a walkaround camera (the rear screen is honestly terrible), and I like that I can rig it up “cinema-ish” when I need to, or keep it simple on a gimbal with a 24mm GM. Add in 10-bit, easy white balance, and S-Log3 when you expose it right, and yeah—until a true unicorn replaces it, the A7S III is staying in my kit.
