Coronavirus Quarantine: Video 18 I will be trying to post simple daily videos for inspiration for my students, and my subscribers to help give us some learning and distraction during this national emergency. Here is a link to the playlist I am adding to: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLj0pNzEmvM_qHHMTkWNXKzUd_0BADQL0a This video, I trim the hollow wheel thrown egg forms using a chuck to hold them. A chuck is an open collar of clay which holds a piece in place- and it is opposite of a chum, which is a domed piece of clay. Here is another video in which I trim minis using a chuck you can check out: https://youtu.be/sUQ6h_e0XNI This video is a follow up to yesterday’s video- where I threw the eggs- here is a link to that… https://youtu.be/4nnEoRdndjc This technique is called throwing of the hump, and I also feature it in my demo video showing mini pieces. https://youtu.be/srm6YDZXzeE Check back for tomorrow’s video on how I add surface design before firing! Check out this link to a live searchable Googledoc I continually update with lots of my favorite tools on Amazon using my associate links! (Mason is currently the largest high school in Ohio!) As a potter, I have been working in clay for over 30 years, and I have been teaching for over 28 years, the past 20 have been specifically teaching high school ceramics. I love what I do! I have my own studio in my home basement, where I work on my personal pottery for my Etsy site; https://www.etsy.com/shop/KaransPotsAndGlass I started my Youtube channel a few years ago, to make videos to help my students if they are absent and miss a demo, or if they would like to explore more advanced techniques independently. I have been amazed to reach such a wider audience than my own students! Please subscribe to my channel if you would like to receive channel updates, or would like to learn more about clay and studio processes!
