Three Ways to Trim on Tabletop Shimpo Aspire Wheels for My Students Working Remotely from Home!

This video is for some of my students who are working from home these next few weeks for quarantine, and they have one of our small studio table top Shimpo Aspire wheels to work on. I am showing them ways they can trim at home on the wheels without some of our studio tools. This video is a demonstration of using our small Shimpo Aspire Tabletop Potter’s Wheels to trim. In my class thusfar this semester, I have shown the kids how to trim using a Giffin Grip, but haven’t yet shown them other alternatives. In this video I show the Bailey quick trim, using lugs, and usinga chum to trim Chums are a wonderful technique for holding a leatherhard piece upside down on the wheel to trim. I highly recommend my students learn this technique, even if they have access to a jig- like a Giffin Grip. I review the very basics of trimming a cup, and then demonstrate how to make the chum from stiffer throwing clay- doming it to fit up inside the pot, and then ribbing and scraping off all the slip to prevent the pots from sticking. I also show using three lugs to hold the pot upside down and the adjustable trimmer made by Bailey that fits my Aspires!
