This video demonstrates three easy ways you can fix a botched or messed up foot on the Potter’s Wheel. My students have limited time in class and on the wheel, and sometimes they just don’t have enough time to redo a project, and we need to take a shortcut (not the best!) way to save a piece! The following are the three methods I show are: #1 Cutting a notched foot like a colander- see this video link for a colander video: https://youtu.be/cQGmpkKyELE #2 Cutting off the botched foot and replacing it with a coil and then throwing it- see this video link if you’d like to see a very similar technique when throwing a goblet with a stem: https://youtu.be/LF6GFF8jivo #3 Cutting off the foot entirely, and replacing it with little legs. If you’d like to see a related video of this technique, you can see my Faberge inspired slip trailed egg here: https://youtu.be/15m1iR5Mvm4 Here is a link to the Sticky Bat from Diamond Core Tools used in the video: https://diamondcoretools.com/products/12 My favorite pottery supplier is my local one: I recommend Cornell Studio Supply in Dayton, Ohio 8290 N Dixie Drive Dayton, Ohio 45414 Fax: (937) 454-0397 Tel: (937) 454-0357 cornellstudiosupply@gmail.com https://cornellstudiosupply.com/ Feel free to call- they are super-helpful! (also some non-amazon suggestions on here!) https://docs.google.com/document/d/1XbYPQjjJnHrQG5xyWGMHZkEcZj5N8VnUAbFZdJRrRmU/edit?usp=sharing Please note my Amazon Associate links do not cost more for you to use, but they do give me a small financial benefit when you use them. Oh, and lots of people ask me about my nails… the information on what I use is also in that Googledoc! Lol! I am a public high school ceramics teacher at William Mason High School in Mason, Ohio. (Mason is currently the largest high school in Ohio!) As a potter, I have been working in clay for over 30 years, and I have been teaching for over 29 years, the past 21 have been specifically teaching high school ceramics. I love what I do! I have my own studio in my home basement, where I work on my personal pottery for my Etsy site; https://www.etsy.com/shop/KaransPotsAndGlass I started my Youtube channel to make videos to help my students if they are absent and miss a demo, or if they would like to explore more advanced techniques independently. I have been amazed to reach such a wider audience than my own students! Please subscribe to my channel if you would like to receive channel updates, or would like to learn more about clay and studio processes!
