Coronavirus Quarantine: Video 16 I will be trying to post simple daily videos for inspiration for my students, and my subscribers to help give us some learning and distraction during this national emergency. Here is a link to the playlist I am adding to: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLj0pNzEmvM_qHHMTkWNXKzUd_0BADQL0a Well, today life threw me a curveball… and I thought we just might roll with it. I had no time to get a video up for you about clay. My youngest daughter has had a fever and a cough, and we were told to isolate her in her room if possible. As a precaution, I made some masks for her to use when she comes out into the rest of the house. Just. In. Case. Hoping it is just a spring cold or allergies… but to err on the side of caution, I thought I would make some masks to have around the house. I was just using some fabric fat quarters of quilting fabric which I had and some elastic. I found a rough guide on how to make these online, and I think they should work rather well. Here is a link to a Googledoc with photos close up of the pleats... some I made with folded paper so it would hopefully make more sense! :) https://docs.google.com/document/d/1isKUWxXAC0csrgMTrx5jQBks640N-fjfMPZtgmFX7B8/edit?usp=sharing My disclaimer: In no way do I claim this has the ability to stop or block the transmission of a virus. It is only a hunch of mine that it may help if my daughter would wear it. This is not endorsed by anyone with medical knowledge. I don’t claim to possess any medical knowledge. I shall not be held responsible for the actions of anyone making a mask and using it. This sewing tutorial is for educational purposes only. The size dimensions are: 9” x 6”, two rectangles and 7” elastic. I used the small round elastic, but you could use thin flat elastic (just skip the knots if you do) Check out this link to a live searchable Googledoc I continually update with lots of my favorite tools on Amazon using my associate links! (Mason is currently the largest high school in Ohio!) As a potter, I have been working in clay for over 30 years, and I have been teaching for over 28 years, the past 20 have been specifically teaching high school ceramics. I love what I do! I have my own studio in my home basement, where I work on my personal pottery for my Etsy site; https://www.etsy.com/shop/KaransPotsAndGlass I started my Youtube channel a few years ago, to make videos to help my students if they are absent and miss a demo, or if they would like to explore more advanced techniques independently. I have been amazed to reach such a wider audience than my own students! Please subscribe to my channel if you would like to receive channel updates, or would like to learn more about clay and studio processes!
