Coronavirus Quarantine: Video 6 I will be trying to post simple daily videos for inspiration for my students, and my subscribers to help give us some learning and distraction during this national emergency. Here is a link to the playlist I am adding to: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLj0pNzEmvM_qHHMTkWNXKzUd_0BADQL0a In this video, I show a super simple and easy technique of using the pinch method to create a hollow shaker form. I begin with a ball of clay, and pinch it, keeping the opening narrow, and then once the thickness is pinched to about the thickness of my pinky, I close off the opening by slowly bringing it inward until I can slip and score the final step to close it off. Once closed off, I show how you can use a paddle to stretch the clay when plastic to change the form. Keep in mind, a paddle should be used to pull the clay in the direction you want it to go, not to be paddled straight in. Once the form is right, then you can allow it to get leatherhard. Once leatherhard, I demonstrate how to clean with a Mudtools Shredder, and a metal rib, yellow rib, and a red rib. Check out the next video which I will link here when I get it up, on how to cut the stopper holes in the shakers. (Mason is currently the largest high school in Ohio!) As a potter, I have been working in clay for over 30 years, and I have been teaching for over 28 years, the past 20 have been specifically teaching high school ceramics. I love what I do! I have my own studio in my home basement, where I work on my personal pottery for my Etsy site; https://www.etsy.com/shop/KaransPotsAndGlass I started my Youtube channel a few years ago, to make videos to help my students if they are absent and miss a demo, or if they would like to explore more advanced techniques independently. I have been amazed to reach such a wider audience than my own students! Please subscribe to my channel if you would like to receive channel updates, or would like to learn more about clay and studio processes!
