This video is the final greenware step in making the ENCLOSED boxes in my Ceramics I classes, creating a Pandora's Box as the project! Within this video, I explain how I design and refine the form while leatherhard, and finish the surface design getting it ready for firing. We are using both ADDITIVE and SUBTRACTIVE DESIGN on our box forms. Here are links to all the slab box videos we use in our Pandora’s Box Project: Practice Slab Box Skillbuilders: https://youtu.be/eumib36t60k Creating the Construction Paper Models for the boxes: https://youtu.be/nc_FNIfC2zs Forming Enclosed Slab Boxes in Clay Using Tar Paper: https://youtu.be/PqWf2zJJffg Refining the Enclosed Slab Boxes- Adding our Pandora’s Box Detailing: https://youtu.be/SO-WjMUYG7o Glazing the Slab Boxes: https://youtu.be/iYiOJRFzyYY Tar paper is roofing paper ( in the US it is available at home improvement and hardware stores). I use the lighter weight- I think it might be 15 lb as opposed to the 30 lb weight. It is sold in big rolls near roofing materials. ** Note** you don’t want to use the fiberglass embedded tar paper as this is problematic in handling. If you have not previously seen the first one- the slab skillbuilder box video, it is a bit slower, and will go over the information with more explanation - that video link is here:. https://youtu.be/eumib36t60k You can find more videos about the tar paper slab construction of pots in the following big tutorial videos: If you would like to see the videos on the construction process of the boxes the links are below: Day one: Building the Slab Form with Tar Paper: https://youtu.be/PThlHsQhZ7E Day two: Cleaning the Leatherhard Slab form and removing the tar paper: https://youtu.be/vHKupITpcjc You will find the link to the informational poster I made which you can download HERE: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1t1SXlsL3ybkibeSFF9zA9ZOo7jxztnfS/view?usp=sharing Please note, this poster is for your personal or classroom use, not for resale in any form. (Mason is currently the largest high school in Ohio!) As a potter, I have been working in clay for over 30 years, and I have been teaching for over 30 years, the past 20+ have been specifically teaching high school ceramics. I love what I do! I have my own studio in my home basement, where I work on my personal pottery for my Etsy site; https://www.etsy.com/shop/KaransPotsAndGlass I started my Youtube channel several years ago, to make videos to help my students if they are absent and miss a demo, or if they would like to explore more advanced techniques independently. I have been amazed to reach such a wider audience than my own students! Please subscribe to my channel if you would like to receive channel updates, or would like to learn more about clay and studio processes!
