This is the fifth video in a series of videos for my Ceramics I Students pinch cup exercise. In this video, I am showing the students how they will be dip glazing their sgraffito cups in our clear glaze. DUE TO THE PANDEMIC: I am using a cone 6 stoneware clay (Standard 153) and a coyote cone 6 stoneware clear glaze- unlike the other videos, where I used earthenware clay. I am trying to keep our clay situation more simple for the kids that are taking their projects home during quarantine. The underglazes are all Amaco Velvet Underglazes. I made this video for my Ceramics I students at Mason High School. This is the first exercise (non-graded) that the kids do in clay for their semester Ceramics I class. They are learning and building skills they will use throughout the semester. They learn pinching, cleaning, underglazing, sgraffito carving, majolica glazing, and dip glazing for this exercise. For the first video in this series, where I demo pinching the cups, here is the link to the construction; https://youtu.be/bW29N3Bc3AQ The second video in this series in which I clean the lumps and bumps from the pinch cups is here: https://youtu.be/ymh6tEdoxew The third video, in which the underglaze application is demonstrated is here: https://youtu.be/ZaQObAcAEls The fourth video is when I demo the sgraffito carving of the cups in the unfired underglaze is here: https://youtu.be/VErOLfOkCm0 Here is a list of a playlist of all the videos in this pinch cup exercise: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLj0pNzEmvM_oCacLjYvR3iWdXbBmLdGva This video begins where the last one left off. The pinch pots are now leatherhard bisque fired, with three to five layers of underglaze.
