I kicked off a 100-hour run through Utah’s desert country—Monument Valley vibes, Valley of the Gods energy, Bears Ears mystery, and a whole lot of “how is this real?” scenery. The joke title is me being sarcastic, because Utah doesn’t suck… it’s just the kind of place that ruins other trips for you. We dealt with wind that nuked our original two-night plan, bounced between exposed clearings and sheltered spots, and ran the constant chess match of finding campsites that can actually fit a big group (10–13 rigs is no joke). Along the way we hit a slot canyon that’s hidden in plain sight, checked out Butler Wash ruins, and chased petroglyph/pictograph stops while weaving through public, private, and tribal boundaries. I leaned hard on onX Offroad to keep us legal (and to avoid doing something dumb like flying a drone where it’s straight-up illegal). On the gear side, I aired down for traction and comfort, aired back up for pavement, and I’ll say it again: onboard air is a first-mod item for a Jeep. I also put my latest diesel heater box build to the test—works great, but I found a design flaw that’s already got me planning version two.
