The subject is a Melbourne Street scene, with buildings, cars, and dramatic shadows. The materials used are very limited. Watercolor cold pressed paper by Arches, a dip pen, permanent black ink, some old watercolor brushes, and water. My techniques uses no prior drawing, just straight in with the dip pen. This encourages my students to observe before placing a mark, and then boldly continuing. I have found this challenging method to greatly assist in developing drawing skills. The wet ink is then turned into washes with the use of a wet watercolor brush. Should you have any questions, please leave them in the comments section below.
