In this video I’m checking out the Wampler TCD, which is Brian Wampler’s take on the now-famous Fulltone OCD. The OCD was one of those early “boutique-but-went-mainstream” drives that basically everybody had on their board in the mid 2000s into the early 2010s, and it’s cool to see a modern builder do a fresh version of it—especially because there honestly haven’t been a ton of great “takes” on the OCD idea. I walk through why that original circuit mattered, and why the core concept still holds up. Tone-wise, I demo it with both humbuckers and single coils: my Gibson Les Paul Classic loaded with David Allen P-51 Mustang PAF-style pickups, and my Fender American Standard Telecaster with David Allen Cheetahs, all into my Rivera Venus Deux. The TCD keeps the mode switch concept I always loved (it really can feel like two different pedals), and Wampler expands the flexibility with a 3-band EQ plus internal dip switches to tailor gain and low end—super smart considering how many OCD versions existed. My big takeaway: it’s got that incredibly natural crunch with a gain sweep that goes from saturated overdrive into “wow, distortion” territory, and it’s one of those rare new drives where I genuinely feel like, yeah… the guitar world needed this one.
