About This Video

What’s up everyone—I'm Jack Fossett, and in this video I’m demoing and reviewing the Wampler Golden Jubilee, a dual overdrive/distortion that honestly surprised me. On paper it’s a “Plexi-style drive on one side and a Mesa Boogie-style distortion on the other,” and I’ll admit the word “excess” popped into my head—because it’s so easy for that kind of combo to get over-the-top and only be useful if you’re chasing extreme gain. But Wampler nailed something that feels rich and powerful without getting tacky or ridiculous. The big takeaway for me is the feel: the Plexi side has more of that “sink” into the note instead of the super percussive jump a lot of Plexi pedals have. I walk through the controls (it looks knob-heavy, but it’s straightforward): separate level/tone/gain for each side, character switches for both, and an order switch to choose which circuit feeds the other. I’m running it at 9V into my Marshall JTM45/Bluesbreaker-style amp (fat, warm, and darker—more Bassman-ish than the stereotypical bright Marshall thing), and I’m using a Tele with D Allen Cheetah pickups plus a Les Paul with D Allen P51s. I also show how stacking works best when you keep at least one gain control backed down, because the pedal can absolutely get heavy—but it stays musical and usable across a wider range than you’d expect.
