About This Video

What’s up everyone—I'm Jack Fossett, and in this video I’m demoing and reviewing the DOD Badder Monkey, which is basically a modern, way-more-versatile evolution of the old DigiTech Bad Monkey. I remember the original really well, and it was always living in that Tube Screamer realm—then it got that whole second life (and ridiculous prices) after the JHS Bad Monkey craze. This new one feels like DOD is building on the cult favorite while also kind of tipping the hat to the whole hype cycle in a tongue-in-cheek way. I run the Badder Monkey through a Fender Telecaster and a Gibson Les Paul—both loaded with David Allen pickups—into my Marshall Bluesbreaker JTM45 with Celestion Alnico Golds. The big story here is the “barrel” control: you’ve got Bad (the classic circuit), Behaved, and Badder, plus you can blend between them. On top of that there’s a two-band EQ and a switch that gets you into/out of phase, plus a mode that kicks in all three circuits. It’ll do the straight-up mid-hump overdrive thing, but it can also get raucous—old-radio vibes, super thick distortion, and even that almost-fuzz-into-a-distorted-amp territory.
