I went into this one pretty skeptical, because “clickable fountain pen with a trap-door” sounds like the kind of gimmick that either works shockingly well… or dries out and makes you mad. In this video I review the Writech Clictek, which is a budget-friendly retractable fountain pen that’s clearly aiming at the same lane as the Pilot Vanishing Point and Platinum Curidas. The big question is simple: does that trap-door mechanism actually do anything useful, or is it just another moving part waiting to annoy you? I walk through the mechanism, click it a bunch, and talk about what it’s trying to accomplish—keeping the nib sealed so it doesn’t dry out between uses.
