Does the trap-door mechanism on this retractable fountain pen even work? I was very skeptical. Today, we’re reviewing the Writech Clictek, an inexpensive alternative to the Pilot Vanishing Point and Platinum Curidas. Does it dry out? Is it durable? Is that trap-door annoying? In this video, we dive into: The Mechanism: Whether or not the unique design prevents ink from drying out. Writing Performance: A real-time test of the steel Medium nib. Value: Is it a good pen, or just a novelty? Where to find this pen: Amazon (price increased recently, but coupons avail.): https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_c3ZVGEsJ AliExpress (looks for all the world like the same pen marketing for Asia): https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_c3ZVGEsJ Walmart (non-affiliate link): https://tinyurl.com/y72wt859 Ink today is the blue Writech proprietary cartridge provided with the pen. About This Video

I went into this one pretty skeptical, because “clickable fountain pen with a trap-door” sounds like the kind of gimmick that either works shockingly well… or dries out and makes you mad. In this video I review the Writech Clictek, which is a budget-friendly retractable fountain pen that’s clearly aiming at the same lane as the Pilot Vanishing Point and Platinum Curidas. The big question is simple: does that trap-door mechanism actually do anything useful, or is it just another moving part waiting to annoy you? I walk through the mechanism, click it a bunch, and talk about what it’s trying to accomplish—keeping the nib sealed so it doesn’t dry out between uses. Then I put the steel Medium nib on the page for a real-time writing test using the blue Writech proprietary cartridge that comes with the pen, on Rhodia Dot Grid paper. Finally, I talk value: whether this is a legit inexpensive retractable option, or more of a novelty pen you try once and move on from. If you’ve been curious but cautious, this is the kind of pen you want to see tested before you throw it in your cart.
