In this video I put Barock Kaviar (from Dresden, Germany) through a full-on ink test—the way I like to see inks tested before I spend my money. I start with the basics (bottle and first impressions), then I run it in my Diplomat Viper so you can see how it behaves in a real pen and not just in a dip swatch. From there I write it across a stack of common papers: Clairefontaine, Rhodia, Just Basics, Ayush, older Tomoe River (Lochby), Pen + Gear, Iroful, and plain old HP 20lb copy paper. After the paper performance section, I do the fun stuff: a swatch, dry time checks, a water-fastness test, and chromatography so we can see what’s actually going on under the hood. The goal is to answer the practical questions—does it feather, does it bleed, does it smear after it dries, and is it going to survive an accidental splash? I wrap it up with my final thoughts and whether I’d recommend Barock Kaviar based on the results you see on-camera.
