Disability Advocacy, Accessibility & Living Blind with Beth

19 views· 3 likes· 37:57· Jan 27, 2026

In this episode, we sit down with Beth, a disability advocate, accessibility connoisseur, and powerful voice challenging ignorance around blindness and disability. With the belief that blindness is a spectrum, and ignorance isn’t, Beth uses her platform to educate, disrupt misconceptions, and advocate for a more accessible and inclusive world. We dive into what accessibility really means in everyday life, how ableism shows up (often unintentionally), and the emotional labor of constantly having to educate others.  Beth shares her perspective on reclaiming narratives around disability, navigating the world as a blind person, and showing up boldly and unapologetically in spaces that weren’t built with accessibility in mind. This conversation is eye-opening, grounding, and an important reminder that inclusion starts with listening, and doing better. About This Video

In this episode, I sit down with Beth (aka @the_blind_girlie), a legally blind guide dog user who moved from England to Canada and has spent the last few years working in film and TV. We talk about how her vision loss progressed, what it felt like to lose a huge majority of her sight as a teen after a surgery didn’t go as planned, and why she’s such a big believer in gratitude alongside being honest about how inconvenient and exhausting disability can be. Beth also breaks down the “blindness is a spectrum” reality—she has residual vision and relies heavily on contrast, which shapes how she navigates the world. A huge part of our conversation is guide dog life: why Beth chose a guide dog over a white cane, how her first dog gave her that “I’m flying” freedom, and how her current dog Churro fits her life as a mom of two. We also get into safety, confidence, and the everyday accessibility barriers people don’t think about—like strangers letting cars “politely” stop (which can actually create danger) or other dog owners distracting a working guide dog. Beth shares what ableism can look like when it’s “well-meaning,” how much emotional labor goes into educating people, and why she still chooses to advocate loudly—because knowing your rights matters, and “nothing about us without us” isn’t just a slogan. If you’ve ever been scared to ask questions about disability, this is your reminder: ask respectfully, listen, and do better.
