For that fast, snappy, surf-carving feel, I like my Board A setup. It’s the Frankie Hill 10" re-issue with Ace trucks, double risers, and 58mm 92a wheels. The shorter 14.5" wheelbase plus that setup just makes it feel quick to turn and responsive.

If I’m thinking bigger ramps and more flow on transitions, Board B is the one I grab. The 16" wheelbase on the Beer City Pig shape with Indy 159s feels more stable and cruisy. The wider 60mm 90a wheels also help it carry speed and feel smoother.

What’s the difference between your Board A and Board B skateboard builds?

Board A is built to be quick and snappy: shorter wheelbase, Ace trucks, and smaller/harder wheels. Board B is built to be more flowy: longer wheelbase, Indy 159s, and bigger/softer, wider wheels. They both work for cruising, but they ride like two different personalities.

On my setups, wheelbase is one of the biggest “feel” changes. The 14.5" wheelbase on Board A makes it turn faster and feel more like a surfboard snap. The 16" wheelbase on Board B calms it down and makes it feel smoother and more stable on bigger transitions.

What wheels do you recommend for cruising rougher pavement vs skateparks?

In this video I’m using 58mm 92a smooth wheels on Board A for a quicker, more responsive ride. On Board B I’m using wider 60mm 90a wheels for a more cruisy, flowy feel, especially on bigger ramps and transitions. If you want smoother and more forgiving, that slightly softer/bigger combo is usually the direction I go.

Do riser pads actually make a difference on a cruiser/park hybrid setup?

Yeah, I run risers on both boards and I do it on purpose. Board A has double risers, and Board B has one hard and one soft riser. It’s part of how I tune the ride feel and help with clearance when I’m running bigger wheels.
