About This Video

It’s wash day over here, so while I’m detangling my hair, I wanted to yap with y’all about something that’s been on my heart—why I stopped celebrating Halloween. I used to do the whole costume thing, trick-or-treating, and even being that house on the block with the ā€œgood candyā€ (yes, Costco and all). But I started feeling uneasy, especially thinking back to a childhood moment when my grandmother checked our candy and found razor blades inside fruit. That stuck with me, because why would somebody do that to kids? As I got older and deeper in my faith, I started asking myself real questions: Have I ever prayed over Halloween candy? What are we actually celebrating, and is it benefiting God? When people call it ā€œspooky season,ā€ I’m like… who is the master of darkness? In Ephesians it talks about not having anything to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, and that really convicted me. I’m not here to judge anybody—my MO is to share my testimony—but as for me and our home, my husband, our son, and I will not be partaking. And yes, I still got my hair detangled—African Pride is the one, not the two.
