Cotton Candy Algae Outbreak: 40 Day Reef Flux Test

Red Cotton Candy Algae. Years ago, I remember a local fish store warning me that this was one of the most devastating pest algae you could get in a reef tank. Nearly impossible to fully eliminate. The hobby has evolved since then. There are now at least two commonly discussed ways to deal with it. First, biological control. Sea hares and certain snails have been reported to graze on it. In my case, with two Green Spotted Pufferfish in the tank, that route felt risky. Second, many hobbyists recommended Reef Flux, which contains Fluconazole. I have known Fluconazole as a treatment for Bryopsis, but I was skeptical that it would work on Cotton Candy Algae. So I tested it.
