In this video I’m showing something I thought was pretty interesting (and honestly super goofy): this 20V x 2 cordless dethatcher will run on different battery brands, but it gets really picky depending on the pack style and size. I tested it with a Hercules 4Ah fully charged and a DeWalt 4Ah “standard” battery, and it lights up and runs just fine. Same deal with other standard DeWalt packs I’ve tried—2Ah and 4Ah work, and the tool behaves normal. Where it gets weird is with the bigger/high output style batteries. My big 8Ah Hercules won’t run it, and the 5Ah DeWalt stacked lithium packs won’t work either. They click in, the tool starts up, and then it immediately shuts off even though I’m still holding the bail. Last year I was running 1.7Ah slim stack packs and could do my whole front yard, so it’s not just “small batteries only”—it’s something about those 5Ah stacked packs or high output packs that this dethatcher just doesn’t like. If you’re planning to run this tool, stick to standard-style batteries (or the ones I confirmed) unless you want to waste time troubleshooting.
