A new Acme Tools store just opened up by my house, so I popped in to see if it’s really the best tool store around—hands down. I’m not doing a full tour in this one, but I hit the hot spots and checked out what they’ve got on the floor: Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita, Bosch, and even some Festool. I’m a sucker for all the colors, so yeah… walking in and seeing walls of red, yellow, teal—this place is awesome. I also went hunting for Flex because online they carry it, and sure enough they’ve got a little Flex section with that “buy the kit, get the tool free” type deal. But I’ll be honest—what they have in-store is kind of pathetic compared to what I expected. On the Makita side, they actually had the 40V stuff, which you just can’t find anywhere locally most of the time, and that’s a big win. Then I checked Festool pricing and… damn. A $1,000 saw, $600 jigsaw, $600 router, and a $600 sander that’s basically the same idea as the new Milwaukee for around a hundred bucks. When you’ve got four kids to feed, that’s why I don’t run Festool.
