I totally forgot I had this Mellif cordless dethatcher/scarifier sitting around after they sent it to me last spring. I put out one short and moved on, but I dragged it back out and yeah… this thing works really, really well. It literally pulls itself up the hill one-handed and just tears the yard up in the best way. For a battery dethatcher, it’s like the only decently priced option I’ve seen that actually performs. It runs on two DeWalt batteries up front (and I’ll show it working with Hercules too), and if you’re a little creative you can pretty much make other 18V packs work. I ran two 4Ah packs and did a ton—whole back of the hill, a big strip, a couple paths—filled my yard bin, and the batteries were only down one bar each. It’s light, has a carry handle, standard bail setup, and a height adjustment. It comes with a grass bin, but it fills up so fast there’s basically no point using it. For the money compared to the crazy-expensive options out there, this one’s a no-brainer if you already have the batteries.
