Episode # 305 In this exciting episode I take all the Hammer drills that I have and put them threw a series of tests. Why you may ask? Because I felt like it.

About This Video

In this episode (#305) I grabbed every cordless hammer drill/driver I’ve got on hand and put them through some real tests… because I felt like it. I ran five drills: Kobalt Gen 1, Kobalt Gen 2 (newer), Hercules Gen 2 (with the big 8Ah), DeWalt DCD998 (Power Detect style), and the Flex. First test was a 1/2" x 18" bit into a nasty, super wet pine log packed with knots—so wet it kept clogging and I had to clear chips constantly. Even with that mess, the drills showed their personalities fast: the Kobalt did fine, Hercules was quicker, DeWalt was smooth, and Flex was just stupid fast. Then I switched it up to a 3" hole saw in standard 2x4 lumber because that big bit wasn’t happy in the soaked log. This is where torque and control matter, and you could hear it—some of these things want to rip your arms off. The Flex surprised me by blasting through brad nails I didn’t even know were in the board, and it’s just flat-out fun to use. My ranking stays the same: Flex is my favorite by far, Hercules is my second favorite, and the DeWalt is “okay” (I mainly bought it to test and show you guys). Kobalt Gen 2 is basically Gen 1 with small changes—don’t overthink it.
