About This Video

In this short, I’m messing around with the new DeWalt DCF870 hydraulic impact driver and doing some quick real-world heat testing. After running it hard for about 5 minutes, I had it up around 140–150° and it started making some weird noises up front—almost like it was skipping. Of course, once it cooled off it didn’t want to do it on camera anymore, but the point is: when it got hot, it acted hot, and that’s something I pay attention to. I also talk through what you’re actually getting with this tool. It’s got three modes, with mode 1 around 1,000–1,100 RPM, mode 2 at 3,000 RPM, and it’s rated 4,200 impacts per minute. There’s also that switch that’ll leave the light on for like 20 minutes—cool, but kind of a goofy feature. Overall, I’m kinda on the fence: it’s “all right,” but it’s definitely not better than my Flex, and I honestly think it’s louder than other hydraulic impacts I’ve tested. I wish I still had my Masterforce hydraulic to compare because I remember it being quieter and maybe even having more power.
