Stella has no idea she’s getting a brother today, and I’m taking you along for a mini dachshund puppy’s very first day home. I introduce you to my dog Stella (I’ve had her for about two years), and then we talk all about my parents’ new long-haired dachshund puppy—mostly black with a few dark brown spots. He’s not a “true mini” either, because one of his parents is a tweenie size, and he was the biggest in the litter, so I’m pretty sure he’ll end up bigger than Stella. We also reveal his name: Stanley (so it’s Stella and Stanley), and I explain the little reasons behind it—plus it just sounds so cute together. Once he’s home, I share how we handled the first-day adjustment, including keeping things calm, starting crate training in a super low-pressure way, and doing a slow, controlled first look between Stella and the puppy.
