About This Video

In this video, I’m dealing with one of the craziest snowstorms we’ve had in Ontario in a long time—over 60 cm (like two to three feet) of snow. And since Stella and Stanley are definitely not two to three feet tall, the top deck basically turned into a giant snow wall they couldn’t even step onto without sinking. After seeing a few TikToks of people shoveling paths for their dogs, I decided to try it myself… but make it a little extra. I grabbed a shovel and carved out a path from the door, then turned it into a loop around the deck—my goal was a little “circle track” so my two wiener dogs could chase each other and run laps. It actually went way faster than I expected (and yes, it might be one of the weirdest, most ridiculous things I’ve done for my dogs). The track worked… kind of. Stella immediately started breaking the walls, barking at birds, and Stanley mostly wanted to be held, so it didn’t go exactly how I pictured. The big takeaway: the snow track idea is fun and totally doable, but don’t be surprised if your dachshunds would rather investigate, snack on questionable snow (no), or head back inside because they’re cold.
