Manuel Castells is the 2012 Holberg Prize Laureate. He is University Professor and Wallis Annenberg Chair in Communication Technology and Society at the University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles and Professor of Communication at the Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism. He is also Research Professor at the Open University of Catalonia in Barcelona, and Professor Emeritus, University of California, Berkeley. His many books include City, Class, and Power (1978), The Rise of the Network Society (1996), The Internet Galaxy (2001), and Communication Power (2009).
