Lecture by Per Selle at the Holberg Prize Symposium. The symposium was held in honour of Jürgen Kocka, the 2011 Holberg Laureate, . Per Selle is Professor of Comparative Politics, University of Bergen and Senior Researcher at Norut - Alta. His research interests include voluntary organizations and welfare states, enviromental movements, political culture, indigenous politics and democratic theory. He has been jointly in charge of The Norwegian part of the Johns Hopkins Comparative Non-Profit Sector Project (CNP) and was a member of the group leading the Norwegian Power and Democracy Project.
