In this video I put the VEVOR A7 5W laser engraver through a real, hands-on test to see if it actually deserves the “best cheap laser engraver” conversation for 2025. I cover the basics you care about if you’re shopping in the budget category: what assembly is like, what the initial software setup looks like, and what safety features you’re (and aren’t) getting compared to bigger-name machines. The A7 is positioned as an entry-level diode laser, but the work area is surprisingly large for the price, so I wanted to see if the performance matches the footprint. For the actual results, I run it across a spread of materials that tend to expose the limits of low-power lasers: wood, acrylic, slate, leather, coated aluminum, and stainless steel. I also talk through how it stacks up against more powerful lasers so you don’t expect miracles from a 5-watt module—there are things it does well, and there are things it just can’t do efficiently.
