Yesterday, the FCC added DJI to its “Covered List,” which effectively blocks new DJI products from receiving FCC authorization in the United States. Most headlines are calling this a drone ban… but that framing is misleading. This decision doesn’t just impact drones — it directly threatens DJI cameras as well. Why? Because modern cameras aren’t just cameras anymore. Action cams, pocket cameras, and creator gear all rely on Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, wireless microphones, live view, and remote control features — all of which require FCC approval. Once a company is on the Covered List, new products with wireless radios can be stopped before they ever reach store shelves.
