About This Video

I literally started this vlog because I made the cutest little top and it reminded me I’ve been sitting on a whole stash of that Jo-Ann “one seam dress” pre-smocked fabric. Since Jo-Ann is closing (I’m still sad about it), I wanted to get this up while you can still grab it on sale and come along with me as I learn how to sew again. I’m super beginner-friendly in this video, and I walk you through the easiest project first: the true one-seam tube dress—good sides together, clip it (because pins stab me every time), run it through the serger, and then hem it. It’s comfy, cozy, and took me about 30 minutes, but I’ll be honest… hemming is my enemy. Then I got a little too confident and tried to make a tiered, ruffled dress with puff sleeves, and baby… that dress humbled me. I wasted like two hours fighting a gathering foot, gave up, and did the elastic gather trick instead (way easier, and you’re not even going to see it). I also talk about burnout and why I stopped at two dresses—this hobby is supposed to get me off doom scrolling, not stress me out. Overall, it’s a real-life sewing diary: what worked, what didn’t, and how I still ended up with a super feminine, cute spring dress I’m genuinely proud of.
