About This Video

About six months ago I did the unthinkable: after 10–15 years of being an Adobe fanboy, I switched from Premiere Pro to DaVinci Resolve. This video isn’t me trying to start a software war (I’m not affiliated with either). It’s me showing what I wish someone had told me before I jumped in—especially because I switched at the worst possible time, mid-project, right before flying out to TwitchCon. Genius move. I walk through the Resolve “pages” (Cut, Edit, Fusion, etc.) and the day-to-day stuff that actually matters for creators: importing media properly (keeping folder structure), setting up keyboard shortcuts (including the built-in Premiere preset), and why the Edit page feels way more fluid once you understand the layout. I also show the built-in effect search (Shift+Space), keyframing that’s genuinely easier to manage, and a workflow boost I now can’t live without: ripple delete silences and text-based editing with fast transcription and speaker detection. Then we get into the “Resolve is basically Adobe’s whole suite in one app” argument: Fusion for After Effects-style work like tracking and roto, plus audio tools built right into the editor. My only real gripe is playback/render caching and how unintuitive it can feel compared to just smashing Enter in Premiere—plus the reality that motion graphics presets are still way easier to find on the Adobe side. That’s why I talk through the plug-in ecosystem (MotionVFX, AEJuice, FourEditors, Excalibur, FireCutAI) and what’s actually worth your time.
