Testing Myself At The Redding Regatta Kayak Race

"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth" Mike Tyson. While people may have detailed strategies, those plans often collapse once faced with the unexpected challenges or the shock of reality. Although I've always thought of myself as one of the faster paddlers in Redding, the Lake Redding Regatta is a friendly reminder that there is always a bigger fish, or a faster paddler. This year marks the second year since the return of the Lake Redding Regatta. This event was first created in the early 1930's and ran till 1939. In 2024 Visit Redding decided to bring back this iconic event as a way of celebrating paddlesports, and drawing attention to this amazing waterway we have flowing right through the heart of town. There are rowing races, SUP races and several classes of kayaks. There is something for every skill and experience level. The community comes out and supports this event with great food, music, crafts, and booths to check out while you spectate. There were roughly 60 races, and hundreds of spectators in attendance.
