Swell Scupper 12 Walkthrough/ Customer Demo

This week we take a close look at the newest line of kayak to our Nor-Cal Demo Fleet the Swell Scupper 12. This small sit on top stands apart from any other sit on tops I've ever tried. It's narrow, low and packed with performance. The one way scuppers allow Swell to drop the floor way down in the kayak allowing for a narrower hull that still has a decent stability profile. The initial is mild, but the secondary stability it massive. It feels more like a forgiving touring kayak than a sit on top rec kayak. When the wind picked up on our demo I found the Scupper to be far more manageable than the other wider chair style sit on tops we were paddling. All and all its an impressive little kayak. The only draw back I see is the weight. At 72lbs fully loaded with the Adventure package, and Rudder, it's not exactly light weight. With that said it's typical for sit on tops.
