Santa Paws is coming to town, and in this video I’m getting the girls hyped for the holidays by making Cranberry Mint Candy Cane Treats for dogs. It sounds a little strange (cranberry + mint, I know), but we’re basically remaking our old candy cane idea with a different recipe and doing two doughs—one red and one green—so they look like real Christmas candy canes. Memphis, Kira, and Eleanor “help” the whole time, mostly by trying to steal ingredients and aggressively volunteering to lick the peanut butter spoon. I walk you through the full recipe: pumpkin puree, bone broth (because my dogs love it), an egg, xylitol-free all-natural peanut butter, and oat flour (wheat or all-purpose works too). For color and flavor, I blend cranberries for the red dough and mint leaves for the green dough in my NutriBullet, then I add just a couple drops of food coloring to get that vibrant holiday look. The big takeaway is shaping: roll each dough into ropes, twist them together, and form candy canes—tight twist or loose twist, both are cute. For that crunchy finish, I bake them around 20 minutes, then turn the oven off and leave them in to dry out (while keeping an eye on the bottoms).
