Mix the Base Dough Whisk the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt together in a large mixing bowl. Add the room-temperature eggs and warm milk. Mix everything until a rough, shaggy dough forms. 2. Incorporate the Butter Begin kneading the dough. Add the softened butter one cube at a time. Wait until the dough fully absorbs each piece before adding the next one. Continue kneading for about 10 to 15 minutes. The dough will look very sticky at first, but it will eventually become smooth, glossy, and stretchy. 3. First Rise Form the dough into a ball and leave it in the bowl. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap. Let it rest in a warm spot for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until it doubles in size. 4. Chill the Dough Place the covered bowl in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, or leave it overnight. Brioche dough contains a lot of butter, which makes it extremely soft. Chilling the dough firms up the butter and makes it much easier to handle. 5. Shape the Loaf Turn the cold dough out onto a clean surface. Gently fold the edges toward the center to create a tight, round ball. Place a large piece of parchment paper on your counter and set the shaped dough right in the middle. 6. Second Rise and Preheat Cover the dough loosely and let it rise for another 1.5 to 2 hours until it looks puffy. About 45 minutes before baking, place your 6-quart Dutch oven (with the lid on) inside your oven. Heat the oven to 400°F (200°C). 7. Bake the Bread Uncover your dough and brush the top lightly with the egg wash. Carefully remove the hot Dutch oven from your oven. Use the edges of the parchment paper to lift the dough and gently lower it into the pot. Put the lid back on and bake for 25 minutes. 8. Brown the Crust Remove the lid from the Dutch oven. Bake for another 15 to 20 minutes. The egg wash and high butter content will create a deep, glossy golden crust. 9. Cool Completely Take the pot out of the oven. Use the parchment paper to lift the bread out and transfer it to a wire cooling rack. Let the bread cool for at least one hour before you slice into it.
