Come onnn curl friends—today is wash day, but instead of my normal twist out, I’m doing spring twists for the first time in a long time. I show you what I’m starting with (defined in some spots… a hot mess in others because yes, I play in my hair and I be causing my own downfall). Since my middle gets the kinkiest and most tangled, I start with a pre-poo using the Garnier Fructis Hydrating Treat with aloe to get an initial detangle before I even think about styling. Then we get into the wash day reality: I thought I grabbed shampoo and I didn’t… so it turned into a co-wash day because I was not getting out the shower to fix it. After that I deep conditioned with the Flawless by Gabrielle Union Repairing Deep Conditioning Mask. When I see “repair,” I assume protein, and this one does have some—but it didn’t overpower the moisture for me, and my curls started forming right away. For the install, I walk you through my parting (the hardest part, period), trimming as I go based on what my hair is telling me (single strand knots and that “my comb won’t pass” feeling). I show my braid-then-twist method, how I twist counterclockwise to get the spring twist look, and how I use edge control at the base/ends to help my hair blend when it wants to puff out. I also share my “you don’t have to finish in one sitting” tip—and yes, this took me about 9 hours total.
