Baitcasting reels (a.k.a. baitcasters, a.k.a. levelwind reels) are commonly used for heavy lines and are the most common type of reel used for bass and catfish fishing. Spooling up a baitcaster with new line can be tricky, especially for beginners to using baitcasters. This video walks through the process of setting up a new baitcaster or respooling it with new line, and includes closeup shots of confusing steps. I use a monofilament backing and then connect it to 20lb braided line to finish filling the spool.
