Sometimes you don’t want to drop flagship money on a soundbar with a million channels and an earth-shattering sub. You just want a solid mid-tier setup for a bedroom, game room, garage, or a spare setup—but you still want real performance. In this video I tested the Sony BRAVIA Theater Bar 7 paired with the Theater Sub 7 (about $1,099 as a bundle) to see if it’s actually worth the money, going through features, app control, and how it performs for both music and movies. I break down the Bar 7’s speaker layout (9 drivers total with up-firing Atmos and side-firing channels), the simplified connectivity (two HDMI 2.1 ports, one with eARC), and the Bravia Connect app features like night mode, voice mode, advanced auto volume, and Sony’s sound field optimization with 360 spatial sound mapping. Then I ran measurements with processing off, bass at zero, and a 75 dB reference level, comparing the Sub 7 to Sony’s SW5. In my room the Sub 7 measured stronger down low, and orientation (sideways vs forward) was basically a wash—so I went sideways for looks and maximum output. For movies, height effects are there (room dependent), but my side-channel effect felt a bit lacking in my layout—rear speakers are the move if you want that full sound bubble.
