In this get ready with me, I’m doing my makeup and getting dressed for a fall farm event upstate (yes, the “barbecue bacon bourbon” situation), and I’m trying to actually multitask instead of just talking for 20 minutes and then doing my makeup in silence. I break down my outfit pieces as I go—thrifted layers, ripped jeans with double socks because it’s colder up there, and the accessories that make it feel like me. We also do the extremely serious decision-making process of which earrings are the vibe (spoiler: sunflower earrings won). While I’m getting ready, I ramble about veganism, boundaries, and why people on the internet love to act like they’re the morality police. I’m vegan, my husband is vegan, but he also has celiac disease, so gluten-free is non-negotiable for us in a way that’s literally health-related. I also talk about being open-minded without needing to “subscribe” to anything—religion, labels, or other people’s expectations—and how I just don’t answer to anybody about my choices. And of course, we detour into karaoke because I highly recommend it, and my neighbors are basically our karaoke crew when we want to party hard.
