Making a Wooden Cane/Walking Stick FAILURE

Today I was making a video about how to make a wooden cane / how to make a wooden walking stick. It was going great! I was using my wood lathe to turn a blank of maple and walnut (I thought a maple/walnut cane could look cool!) It all went perfectly fine... until it didn't. I was almost done making the cane / walking stick when it broke in half and the cane handle wouldn't thread on.
