About This Video

I built a full smart bedroom makeover for my six-year-old son, and the goal was simple: give him one easy controller that lets him run the fun Govee Neon Rope Light scenes (and a couple other lights) without needing my help. After painting the wall and installing the Govee neon rope light around the corners, I mounted the Flic Twist right next to his wall switch so he can reach it from bed. I also added a smart plug for his Pokémon light so the whole room can be controlled through routines. The big challenge was scenes. I really wanted him to use Govee’s “super epic” built-in scenes (this rope light has 220+), but Matter on the Flic Twist can’t directly trigger Govee scenes. My workaround was using the Alexa app, because it’s the only controller I’ve found that reliably exposes Govee scenes for routines. I set the Flic Twist to “Scene Blender” and mapped the 12/3/6/9 o’clock positions to Alexa routines that pick specific Govee scenes plus other actions. Then I used Matter where it actually helped—adding my Aqara Hub M2 so the Flic app could directly toggle his overhead light, plus a double-press to shut everything off. A few days later, he’s still obsessed (and yes, he made me tweak the scenes).
