About This Video

In this video I’m breaking down why I use Apple Home and Home Assistant together, instead of picking just one platform. I’m an Apple Home user because my family is deep in the Apple ecosystem, and for day-to-day control it’s simple and easy. But Apple Home has limitations—especially when you want deeper automations and more control over how your smart home looks and works beyond the standard room tiles, buttons, and scenes. Home Assistant is where I go when I want that next level. I show you my Home Assistant dashboard setup (very much a work in progress) and how I’m building clean, modern dashboards for different devices—like a phone-friendly vertical view and a desktop dashboard with a full floorplan. The floorplan is interactive, so I can tap a room or device to control lights, dimming, curtains, and even jump into a dedicated room view. I also show a simple home maintenance “counter” card concept that can notify you when tasks are overdue. Finally, I explain how I’m tying it all together using the HomeKit Bridge in Home Assistant, so devices—حتى ones that aren’t natively HomeKit compatible—can still show up and be controlled inside Apple Home.
