About This Video

In this video I’m basically rebuilding my smart home from the ground up after I “accidentally… and not so accidentally” nuked a bunch of my setup. When my Home Assistant-to-Apple Home integration disappeared, I lost automations right along with it—so I sat down with coffee and knocked out the core stuff my house needs to actually take care of itself again. I move fast on purpose here, because this is a real automation building session, not a theory lesson. I build a couple simple motion automations in Apple Home for my foyer lights (two sensors, same lights, auto-off after two minutes), and I’ll be the first to tell you it’s not perfect—but it works 99% of the time because we’re usually just walking through. Then I set up presence-based lighting in my office using the Aqara FP2 zone: when I enter my desk zone, my desk strip turns on and my Key Light drops to a warm 5%. For the kitchen, I jump into Home Assistant for presence logic (including a 4-second “real presence” delay and a 5-minute clear timer with extra checks), and I finish with more advanced “automation to trigger an automation” security flows using Home+ 6—so I can arm/disarm and swap between night/home modes based on who’s home and whether my bedroom door opens or closes.
