About This Video

Apple officially dropped iOS 17, and in this video I walk through the five features I’m actually excited to use day-to-day—especially the ones that make my iPhone feel more like a smart home controller. Before my top five, I call out two features I haven’t fully tested yet but can’t wait to: the new AirDrop behavior (tap phones together, and it can keep transferring over network if someone walks away) and the new Journal app for saving thoughts, photos, and even audio recordings right on the iPhone. From there, I break down my favorites. Reminders gets a huge quality-of-life upgrade with Grocery Lists that auto-sort items into categories, so you’re not zig-zagging around the store. Contact Posters make calls feel way more personal with full-screen caller visuals, plus live voicemail transcription while someone is leaving a message (and you can even answer mid-voicemail—major early-2000s vibes). Siri finally drops the “Hey” and adds continuity so I can chain commands without repeating myself. Interactive widgets are a big deal for me because I can check off reminders, control media, and—my favorite—toggle Home devices and scenes right from the Home Screen. And my number one: StandBy mode, which turns a sideways charging iPhone into a dope smart display with clocks, photos, live activities, and widget stacks—exactly the kind of smart home energy I’m here for.
