About This Video

I tried to do a very simple, very dumb thing: make a GT 710 run games by “supplementing” it with a proper GPU using Lossless Scaling, which can offload frame gen and upscaling to another card. In my head this was going to be an easy win—like, I wasn’t trying to unify gravity or anything. The test bench was in a Corsair 4500X (curved glass, ooh), with an i7-13700K and 32GB DDR5, and I started with an RTX 5070 baseline in Cyberpunk at 1440p Ultra. DLSS Frame Gen took me from ~100 FPS to ~170 FPS, and Lossless Scaling looked surprisingly similar visually, but both had real overhead and some confusing reporting. Then the real suffering began: the GT 710 basically didn’t work with modern Nvidia drivers, Windows only half-recognized it, and I spiraled through driver versions, DDU wipes, and disappointment. I swapped in an RX 6400 as a more modern “crapola HDMI out card” and managed to get Lossless Scaling frame gen working in Doom: The Dark Ages—smooth, surprisingly clean, and with no base FPS loss when it was just doing video out. Finally, I got the cursed dual-GPU dream working by pairing the RX 6400 with an RX 7800 XT so the game could run horribly on the 6400 while the 7800 XT handled frame gen. It “worked,” but at low base FPS it turned into wormhole latency, early-AI-video artifacts, and full-on visual nonsense—especially when I cranked it to 15x and 20x. The takeaway: frame gen can’t save you if your base frame rate is a dumpster fire, but it can be weirdly impressive in the right setup.
