It’s time for LEGO City Update #51, and while I’m still waiting on the parts for my train station, I didn’t want to just sit around doing nothing. So in this one I crack on with a proper fun side project: turning the LEGO Creator 3-in-1 Modern House (one of my favourite sets from 2024) into a bigger beach mansion by putting two of them back-to-back. I skip the last couple of bags of backyard bits because the whole point is that this place is right on the beach—so no swimming pool, and I want it sitting pretty much straight up against the road with just a bit of pavement out front. I build a sturdy MILS plate (it’s one and a half baseplates, so it needs locking together properly), strip out the original back garden, and rework the decking and steps to fit the tighter footprint. I also start sorting the door/window situation because, unsurprisingly, you end up with far too many doors when you double the build. Typical me, I run out of parts mid-way (missing glass and some bricks), but it’s far enough along that I can drop it back into the city and it already looks great. Then I zoom out and talk bigger plans: I’m debating whether this beachfront area stays sandy or becomes more of a boardwalk/promenade—especially with rumours of a LEGO City beachside tram set. I also show how this modern development will sit right beside my “old town” buildings, including plans to mod the Creator 3-in-1 Toy Store into a mini modular to help sell that in-universe storyline of the city evolving over time.
